Camping at one of the caravan parks in Scotland, is a great way to spend a holiday. The parks typically have all of the necessary amenities as well as a variety of activities for campers of all ages. Camping is a fun and adventurous way to spend time in nature, however, there are several camping tips that should be taken into consideration, especially if you are new to camping.

Camping Tip #1
Making a checklist is an important part of going camping because it is easy to forget items that will be necessary at a campsite. The list should include all food items you will need, flashlights, bug spray, sunscreen, first aid kit, clothing, comfortable shoes, tent, camp stove, utensils, blankets and activities for children. Start the list two weeks before the date you are to leave and add items to it as you think of them to avoid forgetting items.

Camping Tip #2
If you have never been on a camping trip, it is recommended that you have a practice run. A practice camping trip can be done in your backyard or visit a family member or friends house and camp in their yard. This will help to get you accustomed to sleeping outdoors and give you a chance to practice setting up the tent.

Camping Tip #3
The weather is a large part of camping as you will be outdoors. Be prepared for unexpected changes in the weather and pack accordingly. If you are camping in the summer time there may be rain or extremely hot days and winter camping could bring snow. Being prepared for the worst will make the experience much more pleasant. Pack accordingly such as extra blankets, rain jackets, boots and always have extra water.

Camping Tip #4
Keep your camping area safe by building fires away from the tent area. The tent will be your shelter so make sure it is in excellent condition. Check the tent for any tears or rips and make sure it is clean before packing.

Camping Tip #5
Always follow the rules of the campground and have camping etiquette. Keep in mind that there are others camping in the area as well. If camping with children, they should play only in the designated playground area to avoid making excessive noise and disturbing other campers. The majority of camping areas have a lights out rule, follow the rule and avoid disturbing other campers by keeping the noise down.

When the camping trip has ended, remember to clean up the area, remove all trash and if you had a fire, make sure it is extinguished before leaving the site. When packing for your trip, pack as many biodegradable products as possible to avoid leaving excessive amounts of plastic in the trash containers.
